Embodiment Asylum was an outgrowth of a preceding company, Gaudy Self-indulgent Rules, formed in 1981 on guitarist and chorister Dave Pirner, guitarist and grant vocalist Dan Murphy, bassist Karl Mueller, and drummer Compliment Morley.
