FLICK PICTURE SHOW JUDGE: Southland Tales
Southland Tales. As in Tales from Southern California, but a different California, where Dwayne “The Outcrop” Johnson is an action star turned soothsayer, Justin Timberlake is a warhorse of Iraq, Sean-William Scott is actually a yoke of twins, and Sarah Michelle-Gellar is a porn top named Krysta Now. “No-one rocks the cock like Krysta Now.” Or so we’re told. You not in the least in point of fact see her rocking the cock, and she is more than welcome.
But the mist doesn’t sit on and pander to the prototype of audience who necessity to see a flare of tits. In truth, it doesn’t pander to anyone. It is by paralytic and away the most experiential flick to be relevant to out of Hollywood recently, if you discount David Lynch.
Principal of all, the dusting view of Southland Tales is indeed chapters four, five and six. Hey if Star Wars did it… The first three chapters are build in the Southland Tales graphic novel, which actually makes more judgement in itself and of the mist as a sound, explaining the numerous theories behind the blear, whereas the mistiness itself drops the audience in the midst of a world that is without a doubt removed from the one we live out in.
There is wi-fi liveliness known as Indefinite Karma, a screenplay written while junior to the act upon of drugs that foretells the End Of Days, and some freaky at the same time travelling. So, the total you would think from the brains behind Donnie Darko.
The film is a tousle, but an interesting one. Share of the mixed-up plot is troubled with the puzzle that is the Book Of Revelations found in the Bible, and you could view this as its in fashion cinematic counterpart. Some seascape Revelations as a stump study to be solved, containing a cipher to be dissected. Richard Kelly’s haziness is stressful to encourage this, using the descriptive novella and the veil’s website to besides the tidings and the confounding plotlines within, quite strictly forcing the audience to actively endeavour it out, or, as most people did, swagger short of the cinema.
While this cross-media, story/puzzle thing is a confident stir, the covering should stand on its own legs, which, despondently, it does not. It’s other-worldly and wonderful, annoying and infuriating, littered with massive performances and godawful ones. It intent no suspect follow Darko in chic a cult film, notably on watch tv series online megavideo.
We do not recommend seeing this film, but you destitution to see it. It is the method less travelled.
